The Stapelia genus consists of succulents which are native to Southern Africa. They are known for their, often hairy, flowers which of purple, red or yellow often with striking patterns. However, the flowers are also know for their rather foul smelling odour.
Stapelia require soil with very good drainage. They grow well in pots or containers and should be watered only when the soil is dry. A dedicated cactus mix is normally ideal. They can grow in most light conditions but prefer bright spots although avoiding full sun in the summer. They prefer warmer temperatures of 5-30C.
Stapelias can be propogated via seeds or cuttings.
